I spent 20 years in the SF Bay Area, US and Toronto, Canada doing everything right.
IIT Madras. Ivey Business School. Software engineering roles that turned into product leadership that turned into business development. 15+ patents. Teams built. Deals closed. Ladders climbed.
From the outside it looked like a great career. And it was.
But somewhere around year 15, the question that had been quietly sitting in the background got louder.
What am I actually building this for?
I'm Not a Career Coach Who Read About This in a Book
I lived the IIT pressure. I navigated the North American tech career. I filed the patents, managed the teams, and sat in the business development meetings.
I thought seriously about FIRE before most people in my circle had heard the term.
I made the return to India decision with full awareness of what I was giving up and what I was gaining.
When you work with me you're not getting someone who studied these transitions academically. You're getting someone who has been exactly where you are — and made it to the other side with clarity.
The Move Back
Returning to India wasn't a crisis decision. It was a deliberate one.
I'd been thinking about it for years — running the numbers, weighing the tradeoffs, imagining the life. And then I stopped imagining and started planning.
The move back to Chennai wasn't the end of something. It was the beginning of building life on my own terms — financially, professionally, and personally.
That process — messy, uncertain, and ultimately deeply clarifying — is exactly what I now help others navigate.
